Title: Sailing Next Week? (May 11th - May 18th 2010)
Post by: Simon Knight on May 05, 2010, 11:21:34 am
I have been granted a pink chit from the 11th of May (2010) and plan to launch my BR for the first time (please don\\\'t ask why its taken so long).

As I have to drive to the wet stuff I can go almost any where in the UK and would be interested in meeting and /or sailing in the company of other Swallow Boat owners.

best wishes

Simon

I hope to be sailing sometime over the weekend May 15-16 in Poole Harbour. If the weather is OK I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll probably launch Friday evening and be on the water all day Saturday. It would be fun to see you at Poole. You can launch from the Baiter public slipway which is near Poole Quay and they have lots of parking for cars and trailers. Its also very close to where I am moored. BUt only if it is sunny!

Simon

Likewise, weather permitting we shall be out in Poole on weekend of 15th/16th, (exact day depending on Rugby semi finals). Any time between about 10 and 4 there will be plenty of water at Baiter and not too strong tides, probably suiting a trip up the harbour or round the islands rather than out to Studland.

Lets hope the weather will be better than this weekends forecast and last weekend, the planned camping trip to Wareham is definitely cancelled this weekend!

Richard Cooper,

Storm 17, Little Grebe

Has anyone any idea how many Swallowboats there at or near Poole? I have met Little Grebe on only my second trip out. I hope there will be another BayCruiser later this summer. Are there any others?

I might be sailing across from Christchurch, may or may not make it into the harbour; where do you plan to sail to?

No specific plans. I may be down Saturday evening and sunday, or possibly just ealry Sunday morning. If it is nice I may well head out towards Studland. There is a nice pub...

Looks like Saturday will be the best weather, so I am going down in the morning. Should be on the water in Parkstone Bay by 10:00 if I get my act together. Shall probably just sail around the Islands in the harbour and head for home in the late evening

Was there anyone around? I sailed on Saturday, although the weather wasn\\\'t all that great. I saw a Storm around Baiter slipway, but it sailed off into the distance before I really got going. There were a number of other yawls around. Devon Yawls I think. But it was a bit gloomy. Sunny out to sea but not over the harbour.

Had an unexpected visit from my daughter and grandson so only got out for the morning.  Also delayed as I had taken the sails off for the winter and had put the jib back on incorrectly.  Called Matt, who was brushing his teeth at the time, and he gave some very helpful advice.
Had a good sail in Christchurch Bay, but it was rather cold when the sun went in.  Couldnt make it across to Poole, maybe next time.  Was wondering about not putting the water ballast in - was very glad I did as we heeled over the lee rail almost under water.
Heard the coastguard transmit a request to look for a body of a woman whose clothes had been found on the beach.  At 11.40 a yacht broadcast that they had just seen a body in the water and giving its position.  They werent stopping as they were racing !!! Seemed very callous. I told my daughter that by 11.50 we\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'d see the Christchurch lifeboat explode out from Mudeford.  They did at 11.51.  Not bad for volunteers called in from homes and jobs.  They shot off towards Christchurch ledge and began their search, which wouldnt have been necessary if the yacht had stood by the body. Very sad.  http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/8167974.Search_launched_as_woman_goes_missing_off_Bournemouth_seafront/?ref=mr
