BayRaider Yardstick Estimate
« on: May 09, 2009, 02:56:18 pm »

From some dogfights with some other dinghies of the \\\'Elb H-Jolle\\\' class I estimate the Yardstick handicap of the BayRaider must be around 110.
However, that number does not take into account the heavy weather capability of the BR, as it is just an average weather speed index for Yardstick racing.

Hi Claus
Is this different from the Portsmouth Yardstick handicap numbers used in the UK? They are all around 1000 rather than 100.

Julian,
the difference of the US and UK Yardstick systems is explained at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portsmouth_yardstick.

A US Yardstick of \\\'110\\\' would equal a \\\'1100\\\' in UK.

BTW, here is the website of the dinghies that I feel perform very similar to the BR, sorry for the lingo: http://elb-h-jolle.de/elb-h-jolle/jolle.html . It is a very popular class here on the river Elbe, that is why I meet them so often.

Hi Claus,
If you have got the yardstick right, that puts the BR in some very commendable company. Blows the Drascombe Lugger away at 135.

Yes, Julian,
the difference is quite dramatic. For every mile the Drascombe gains to windward the BayRaider gains two.
