Storm 17 - Final Design PDF Print E-mail
Click to see real sizeThis is the "final" design. There are likely to be small changes as we build her, but this more or less it. Our design work has been extended for longer than was initially estimated, as we are finding it beneficial to resolve as many small problems as possible now, rather than have problems mount up during the build phase.

Generally only small changes have been made from "Boat B". These Comprise:

A three chine hull (i.e. four planks per side, instead of three). This is essentially to enable her to be built with narrower panels, to help them form the shape at the bow, and to fit into our shipping packs more easily. It also makes her look even more rounded which can improve the looks.

A choice or rigs. Several people have asked us about this, so we have designed for a choice of rigs from the outset. Click on the pictures below for more detail:

Post Script
This was not quite the final design, in the end we could not make the stern of the 4 plank hull look quite as good as the three. Being more round bilged, we were also concerned about the stability of the four plank hull, and our calculations showed that she would have suffered. In the end we reverted to 3 planks a side and have made our shipping packs a bit wider
