Cardigan Bay Lugger
The Lugger has an optional Storm Jib, for use in heavy weither instead of the main
The Cardigan Bay Lugger is a small cabin boat based on the successful Storm 19  hull.  Design work began in early 2006 and she is due to be launched end of June 2006. She is just under 19ft long and should weigh around 250 kg (550lbs) fully rigged. There is sitting headroom with a v-berth under the coachroof as well as space for basic cooking/icebox etc.
Length: 18ft 7ins (5.7m) Beam: 6ft 2ins (1.9m) Weight: 550 lbs (250kg)

Twin bilge boards under the seats P & S keep the cockpit and cabin clear.

There is space under the bridge deck for a small portable chemical toilet as well as anchors, bilge pump etc. A large spray hood will give sun and rain protection to the forward part of the cockpit, and together with a zip flap on the aft face, may even give a little privacy to those answering the call of nature.

Working late we managed to get her to the Beale Park show as a work in progress exhibit. She attracted a lot of attention and we look forward to getting her in the water. Boat number 1 is going to Nottingham, England and to Greece every summer (hence the light coloured paint) where she will spend 6 weeks or so exploring the Ionian... okay for some!

On Sunday 9th July, she was launched for a week of sailing trials. Here are some early pictures. More Should be coming over the next few days. We were very pleased with the boat overall. As expected, with three adults in the cockpit  and a 4HP yamaha on the back, she was a little stern down, but not by as much as was anticipated. With one adult in she trimmed perfectly. On a boat this size it is always going to be a compromise but there is plenty of stowage room in the cabin for items that would bring her back to level trim if you were out with the family.

The photos below show the spray hood in place, an integral part of this boat as it gives huge shelter to the cockpit from both rain and sun.
